As candles lovers from the olden days (lol), we've seen em all! Well...maybe not all of them but a good many in our day and over the years, have educated ourselves on what to look for, what to avoid, and ultimately what we truly wanted!
A clean burning candle that didn't skimp on ingredients used, was good for the environment, had stellar Hot/Cold throw, was at least a cotton double-wick, and hit a price point that made sense for what you got. We wanted a lot of bang for the buck! And when you take the lid off of our Candles, let the Good Scents roll 💙💜🕯️✨!
So why Paraffin free?
Well, a paraffin candle is a type of candle made primarily from paraffin wax, which is a byproduct of crude oil refining. Though it is one of the most commonly used materials for making candles, it's far from environmentally friendly. You see, Paraffin wax is derived from crude oil, which is a non-renewable fossil fuel. The extraction and processing of crude oil can have negative environmental effects, including greenhouse gas emissions and habitat destruction. Again...how many of the candles that you buy from big box stores do you think have Paraffin wax in them? And they're cranking them out constantly to keep up with demand. Which is why they're so cheap.
Did you know that when paraffin candles burn, they can produce soot? This can become caked on walls, ceilings, and other surfaces. Additionally, inhaling soot (no matter how good smelling that candle may be) can potentially be harmful to human & animal health, especially for those with respiratory issues. Finally, paraffin candles may release small amounts of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other air pollutants during burning. Thank you Dyson for the heads up on that one!
Now, there are definitely other cons to paraffin candles, but those are just a few reasons why we've chosen organic + plant based alternatives instead. You should feel good about all the products you buy and not have to worry about lingering negative affects. And in the case of our candles, which are eco-friendly, come in a recyclable jar/lid, clean burning, and utilize sustainable ingredients, you should feel great!
